News from the Vinho Verde region

The beginning of the year is always very productive in terms of new releases and you may have noticed that in the last few weeks we've added several hundred wines to our shop.

There are now almost 10,000 wines, which makes it almost impossible to focus on them all.

With that in mind, we'll be regularly selecting some of the hottest new releases in each region, and making sure you're always informed about new producers and products in shop.

We're starting today with the north of the country, more specifically the Vinho Verde region, one of the most dynamic regions with wines of very varied profiles, where white grape varieties dominate, especially Alvarinho and Loureiro.

One of the great novelties is undoubtedly the partnership between Anselmo Mendes, a recognized master of Alvarinho wines, and Dirk Niepoort, one of the most important figures in Douro and Port wine.

The ADN project includes several wines from the Loureiro and Alvarinho grape varieties and a red from the Vinhão grape variety. As well as the quality of the wines, the low alcohol content, which is what the market is asking for nowadays, stands out.

At Quinta de Santiago, where some of the best Alvarinhos in the region are produced, there are now parcel wines available, as well as the producer's partnerships with the winemaker Nuno Mira do Ó (Druida in Dão and Outrora in Bairrada), and with the Pormenor project (Luís Seabra and Pedro Coelho at Quinta do Gulhe).

As for the more classic style, Quinta de Melgaço and Casa da Tojeira also offer great new products, always with the Alvarinho grape variety as their base. These are two of the region's leading producers that are worth getting to know, both for their white wines and for the great sparkling wines.

In terms of new producers in store, we'd like to highlight the wines of the Vale do Homem brand, with whites from the region's typical grape varieties at very competitive prices.

We'll end with one of the region's leading producers, Vinhos Borges (Gatão), which this month released an Alvarinho with barrel ageing and a blend of Alvarinho, Loureiro and Arinto from the Quinta do Ôro vineyards.

There are many more new releases from some of the region's leading producers, such as Cortinha Velha and Aphros, but for now, check out our recommended wines.
