Portuguese wines to celebrate International Cabernet Sauvignon Day

Tomorrow is International Cabernet Sauvignon Day, celebrating one of the most famous grapes in the world, and we couldn't resist giving you some suggestions for Portuguese Cabernets that you really must try!

This variety gained international fame in Bordeaux, but today we find beautiful examples in Napa Valley, Tuscany, Australia and even Chile. These are regions that use Cabernet in most of their red wines! Here, single-varietal Cabernets are niche wines, but we produce wines of great quality.

The best-known aroma of Cabernet Sauvignon is that of green pepper, which is due to a compound called pyrazine, found in Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. This aroma is more evident in Cabernets from colder climates. Other Cabernet aromas in the fruit register are blueberries and black cherries, which, when overripe, turn into sweets and jams. Menthol aromas are also often described. Over time, wines made from Cabernet Sauvignon develop aromas of cedar, tobacco, earth and, sometimes, leather.

We suggest, as you would expect, Scala Coeli. A truly legendary wine produced from the best vintages of the year, from grape varieties foreign to the Alentejo. In 2019, it was Cabernet Sauvignon's turn. Unmissable!

If you want to try a Cabernet that offers good value for money, we suggest Adega Mãe (10.75 + VAT) or Casa de Cadaval (14.12 + VAT), but be sure to check out our selection today, where you may even find some discounted bottles.
