When we think of the perfect wine to pair with a fish dish, so traditional in Portugal, we immediately think of white wine. And indeed, in most cases, white wines are the perfect companion for fish and seafood, but red wines shouldn't be left out of our choices.
Fatter fish, such as cod or tuna, for example, pair well with red wines with soft tannins and served at a lower temperature (around 14ºC).
Today we have a series of suggestions for red wines which, due to their lightness, freshness and elegance, can be excellent options when choosing a wine to accompany this type of meal.
Adega Mãe Atlântico, made from Pinot Noir, is a wine with an open, shallow but bright red colour. Good freshness and aromatic intensity marked by floral notes, fresh red fruits and a slight spice. Lively acidity, light body, but well structured and vibrant on the palate, with young red fruit dominating the tasting and a long finish.
If you're not yet familiar with the Algarve's Negra Mole grape variety, this is an excellent opportunity. It produces reds of extraordinary lightness and freshness, producing wines that are full-bodied and structured, but at the same time uncomplicated enough to be excellent company for a rich fish dish.
Matching the best wine to the fish you want to eat is sometimes a complicated task. There are many aspects to consider so that there is a perfect blend of flavours and so that we can extract the best of both worlds. Follow our suggestions today and enjoy!
