Born from a cross between Grenache and Petit Bouschet, it was brought to Portugal by the Reynolds family and became forever associated with the Alentejo, where it gained fame and a higher quality than its original terroir in France.
A red grape variety with high natural acidity, firm structure and enormous ageing capacity. On the nose it is recognised for its freshness, with characteristic aromas of mint and spearmint.
Our suggestion today is for some high quality Alicante Bouschet, but with the great advantage of costing less than 15 euros!
We'd like to highlight Tiago Cabaço's Alicante Bouschet, with its deep ruby colour, ripe red fruits, minty notes and spicy notes that give it a lot of complexity. Lots of life, juiciness and freshness on the palate. Long and elegant. Honoured as a ‘Good Choice’ by Vinho Grandes Escolhas magazine.
Casa Relvas Alicante Bouschet, on the other hand, is characterised by aromas of redcurrant, raspberry and strawberry, also with a forest floor and dry bush, and a light touch of tobacco leaf. Well-balanced and harmonious on the palate, it's an Alicante Bouschet with an uncomplicated profile, but very tasty in its fruit and authentic, revealing the purity of the grape variety. 17 points in Vinho Grandes Escolhas magazine.
Take a look at our suggestions today and let yourself be enchanted by this, the queen grape variety of the Alentejo. Good tastings!
