Long gone are the days when the Tejo was only associated with low quality, high production wines. Today there are wines from Tejo that are absolutely brilliant, of the highest calibre, and we're going to talk about them today. After all, it's these wines that give ‘shine’ and recognition to any region.
Tejo's top wines are at an all-time high, and more and more of the region's producers are launching top-of-the-range wines that are really worth getting to know.
Companhia das Lezírias 1836 Grand Reserve is one of those wines... Lots of olives and eucalyptus on first impression, balsamic and chemical, concentrated and very rich in aroma Dense and quite full in the mouth, compact, very solid, showing great structure and class. 18 points in Vinho Grandes Escolhas magazine.
Conde Vimioso Vinha do Convento, on the other hand, tells the story of a unique terroir, a singular environment and a vineyard based on the peculiar pebble. A generous gift left by nature more than 400,000 years ago, by the hand of the River Tejo that passed through it. Bottled in truly exceptional years, it is a wine designed to ensure that the legacy and magic of that vineyard will last for decades to come. 94 points by Robert Parker. Not to be missed!
Another great suggestion is Quinta do Casal Branco's Vinha do Tojal. With extremely high levels of concentration, it produces an iconic wine that is complex and full of character. A wine that promises to continue its evolution in the bottle for many years to come. A limited production of just 1775 bottles.
Seductive. Such are the elite wines from Tejo. And if you haven't had the pleasure of getting to know them yet, here are some suggestions. Good tasting!
