We often associate the vintage date of a wine with its quality, or even the ideal time to open the bottle. But what if the bottle doesn't have a vintage date? This is a growing trend, and the vast majority of major Portuguese producers already have one or more ‘undated’ wines in their portfolio.
These wines are a perfect blend of several vintages and were reborn on the Portuguese market with Quinta dos Carvalhais Special White, which entered the market timidly in 2014 but quickly became a sales success.
These wines, which combine the best of different wine-growing years, began to appear in different regions and styles. They are niche wines, for very specific consumers looking for difference and even irreverence, but some of them have become emblematic wines in our country, such as Álvaro van Zeller's Kaputt White or Susan Esteban's Sidecar. The brand new Falua Unoaked Undated is also worthy of mention.
These are our suggestions for today: let's find out more about these wines, demystifying the lack of vintage on the label, because these are, without a doubt, exceptional wines!
