Product details
Winemaking:
Bastardo, like Malvasia Preta, is planted at Quinta das Carvalhas with a south-facing exposure. Compared to other red grapes in the region, Bastardo is always the first to be harvested, as it is known for having a very short ripening cycle, and is quite sensitive to rot when it enters a phase of overripeness. We believe in this variety, not only for its good adaptability, but essentially for its strong varietal character with great expression on the nose and palate. This wine is fermented in small stainless steel vats with skin maceration, followed by a 12-month aging process in used French oak barrels.
Grape Varieties:
Bastardo
Tasting Notes:
very bright red, which impresses from the start with its brick red color, quite unusual for a Douro red. On the nose it reveals a very intense and complex fruity character with notes of wild berries, pomegranate and blackcurrant. This wine stands out for its intensity and elegance, showing nobility and finesse, with round, firm tannins and a long, persistent finish. It offers immense adaptability for food pairing.
Store and Serve Advices:
Serve at a temperature between 16 and 18ºC. Bottles should be stored horizontally in a clean, airy place protected from light and with normal conditions of mild temperature and constant humidity.
Food Pairing:
It goes well with various red meat dishes, cold cuts and cured or semi-cured cheeses.
Allergens:
Contains sulphites.
