Old & Rare: What's new in top-of-the-range reds

Today we return to our Old & Rare section to show you some of the most exclusive red wines in our country. We've recently received some novelties that are a must-have for any wine cellar!

We must inevitably start by talking about the new Alves de Sousa Abandonado. A wine born from a vineyard that is over 80 years old, with several flaws due to partial abandonment over a number of years... The people of the Quinta quickly nickname it the “Vinha do Abandonado” (Abandoned vineyard). For years Alves de Sousa tried to restore the vineyard and replant the missing vines. In 2004, a wine from this vineyard was bottled for the first time and immediately revealed a unique personality and character: the incredible and highly awarded ‘Abandonado’. Just launched on the market, you can find the new and exclusive 2021 vintage here.

It's also important to mention the new wines from Quinta da Boavista. Vinha do Ujo 2021 (98 points Revista de Vinhos) was born in a vineyard of the same name, planted in 1930, on horizontal pre-phylloxeric levels. Its more than 25 grape varieties reflect a diversity that can only be found in such old vineyards. Firm but fine tannins, an elegant silhouette, lively acidity and an endless finish. Not to be missed!

Vinha do Oratório 2021 (95 points Revista de Vinhos), on the other hand, is born in Quinta da Boavista's ex-libris vineyard, formed by tall, curved oratory-shaped terraces that reach a height of up to 8 metres. With an average age of over 90 years, this vineyard produces a wine of remarkable concentration and complexity. This new 2021 is a classic version of an old Douro vineyard.

Take a look at our suggestions today and get to know this and other world-class Portuguese reds. Exclusive wines with limited production... Good tastings!
