Douro is the Portuguese region with the most notoriety and, as such, the one that arouses the most curiosity in all of us.
Although the region is still dominated by Port wine production, the production area for table wines has been increasing, either through old estates that only produced grapes for Ports, or through new projects that have been born with the creation of table wine brands in mind.
It's therefore natural that many of the wines we've recently added to our shop are Douro wines, many complementing existing producers' ranges, either with the release of superior categories such as the Grand Reserves or one of the current trends, the single varietal wines from the region's native varieties or those varieties that performed best in that harvest year.
Another trend is the wines from a single vineyard or even a specific parcel, giving customers the opportunity to experience the producer's various terroirs.
At Niepoort we would highlight the top of the range reds: Museu dos Lagares, Vinha do Carril and Quinta de Nápoles and at Quinta da Boavista the Vinha do Levante white, and the single varietals Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Donzelinho.
There are many new products from producers you probably already know, but we also have new producers in shop that are worth checking out, such as the In Culto project from the Casa Agrícola Pinto Barbosa, the Firma project from the winemaker Constantino Ramos and the Beija-Flor project from the winemaker Luís Seabra.
In the more classic style, it's worth checking out the wines from Casa Agrícola Rebelo Afonso, Vale de Vila and the return of a historic Douro operator, Vicente Faria Vinhos and the famous wines from Quinta Vale Santa Luzia.
There are many new wines in store, but we've selected the ones that you really can't miss, from the most modern and innovative to the most classic and timeless, all from the Douro valley.
