Quinta da Foz 1872 150 years Commemorative Edition Red

Douro
Rich and refined, it shows great respect for the Douro's terroir and its centuries-old vineyards with a great variability of mixed grape varieties. With great ageing potential, this wine is elegant and complex at the same time. The colour is very concentrated, black, with slight tinges of brick. The nose is broad with a wide variety of aromas. It reveals a wealth of ripe black fruit notes, combined with toasty, sweet, balsamic and spicy aromas, refined by the long ageing in new French oak barrels. Good vegetal notes, typical of old vines. You can feel and smell the terroir. In the mouth it's powerful, with ripe tannins and some still to mature. It still has plenty of potential to refine and progress in the bottle, showing its firm structure and its freshness and liveliness. Full-bodied, with an engaging, complex and persistent finish. A wine with density, maturity, complexity and dimension. A wine to keep.

Product details

Winemaking:
The grapes come from the oldest plots, with vines at least 100 years old. The harvest date for each plot is determined according to the ideal ripeness of the grapes, taking into account the great variability of the varieties. Winemaking takes place in granite lagares with foot treading and fermentation is carried out at a controlled temperature. Careful maceration takes an average of eight days. The wine is aged in 225 litre new French oak barrels. Blend of several vintages in which the 2017 was aged for 48 months, the 2018 for 36 months, the 2019 for 24 months and the 2020 for 12 months.

Grape Varieties:
Traditional grape varieties
