Product details

Winemaking:
Favaios is a sweet Muscat wine made from Muscat grapes intended to be consumed before and after meals. Fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature (23ºC to 25ºC) for around three days, with intensive skin contact. It is then interrupted by the addition of brandy, resulting in a wine with high levels of alcohol and residual sugar. The wines then aged in wooden casks and barrels for several years. After ageing, the best vintages are selected to constitute the final blend, which in this case is made up of wines from the 1989, 1996 and 2003 vintages in different proportions, resulting in a wine with an average age of around 10 years.

17 points·Favaios 10 years Muscat

Cognac, dried fruit, dried flowers, butterscotch, discrete complex, delicate and profound. Fat and delicate in the mouth, very balanced between sweetness and dryness, acidity, long finish, with notes of dry fruits and ferments.

90 points·Favaios 10 years Muscat

The 10 Years Moscatel do Douro in fact spent 12 years in used oak (more than 30 years old), half French oak and half Portuguese. It comes in with 145 grams per liter of residual sugar. When tasting the Favaios 2007 Reserva, also reviewed this issue, I was speculating that many who are unfamiliar with long-aged, fortified Moscatels might wonder why they should bother to trade up. Well, here's the first answer from Favaios. Without the stiff price of the 1980 also reviewed, this 10 Year Moscatel adds richer flavors and more concentration to the less expensive Reserva. It is immediately more impressive than the Reserva just on the nose alone. It also has better focus and more intensity. For the few extra bucks, it is worth trading up, granting that the lighter, more refreshing style of the Reserva might be just what you want at times (a great, warm weather fortified). Overall, this is a delectable and juicy wine laced with warm, Brown Betty apple nuances. It remains elegant even while becoming aromatically powerful and enticing. It is quite lovely and quite a bargain, easily the best QPR point in this issue's lineup from Favaios.
