Favaios Moscatel do Douro 2000

Douro
Despite the long years of ageing, this Muscat still has some of the variety's most characteristic aromas, such as citrus, lime and orange blossom. It is also very marked by aromas of honey, sultanas, dried figs and caramel, which give it great complexity. On the palate, the wine shows the typical sweetness of Moscatel de Favaios, very well balanced by the acidity characteristic of the plateau.

Product details

Winemaking:
2000 was an excellent year for grapes from the Favaios plateau. Nature rewarded us with a balanced year, with mild temperatures and rainfall at the right times, allowing us to create grapes of great quality, harmony and full of the variety's characteristic aromas. After carefully selecting the best grapes from Favaios, they were macerated and fermented as they were traditionally in the region. The alcoholic fermentation is very short, with most of the must being bled off and brandy added as soon as the skins come up. A small part of the must continues to ferment and macerate with the skins for a few more days, and only later is this very aromatically rich must fortified. The first and second musts are then blended and stored in old wooden vats where the wine ages slowly, perfecting its bouquet over 20 years. The long years of ageing in wood have helped to further develop and complex the wine's aromatic profile as well as its palate. It is a fine example of the best Muscatels made on the Favaios plateau. Only 3200 litres were selected from this harvest for this blend.
