Quinta das Camélias is located in the Dão Demarcated Region, in the village of Sabugosa, 14 km from Viseu. It is a 23 ha property with a vineyard area of ??15 ha. It is a property acquired in 2002 by Jaime de Almeida Barros, and it was necessary to completely reconvert the existing vineyards, due to the semi-abandonment situation in which the farm was.
The beginning of wine-making practices in the Dão region is lost in the memory of the times, being too evident the remote evidence of these works. The "Lagaricas" or "Lagaretas", hollows dug in the rock, used in the extraction of grape juice, are the paradigm of these ancient remains. In the letter of Couto from the Monastery of Lorvão, from the year 1183, “Sabugosam” is one of its referenced villages, being already in that Monastery, much appreciated, the wine of that term.
As mentioned by the son of the former owner of the Quinta, the supply of wine to the Embassy of Portugal, in the United States of America, in the 1940s, by express indication of the then ambassador Dr. Pedro Teotónio Pereira, was made from the wine produced in Quinta das Camélias, with the respective barrels sealed with the embassy seal.
