Since 2020, Grandes Escolhas has been organising what is the largest Portuguese white wine competition in the world. Its 5th edition took place on 12 May 2025 with 550 wines in the tasting and 53 judges. The judges, fully respecting the name and spirit of the competition, were exclusively selected from among the most experienced professionals in the HoReCa and retail channels. Owners or managers of restaurants, wine shops and wine bars, sommeliers and buyers or consultants for retail chains.
This really is the Market Choice, divided into three categories: Category A - up to €7; Category B - between €7 and €15; and Category C - over €15.
In each of these categories, the ‘Choice of the Market Award’ was given to the best-rated wines and, among these, the three whites with the highest rating received the ‘Choice of the Market Grand Prize’.
Here we highlight the wines that have earned this distinction. Porta 6 White 2023. A wine with a fresh aroma, with tropical and citrus fruits where passion fruit stands out. Another wine that deserved top honours was Vale D. Maria Vinhas do Sabor 2022. A field blend, with a predominance of Rabigato and Arinto, of memorable elegance. A unique wine that amply expresses the complexity and vivacity of the Douro.
