91 pts Robert Parker - It has a deep almost-opaque ruby colour, and an intense and complex aroma, notable for its ripe fruit and spicy notes such as ginger and cloves. It also harbours a woody resin component and aromas suggestive of tobacco box and cedar, as well as a floral rockrose component. The palate is very intense and complex, with high-quality tannins and a fine acidity. With ripe red berries, cedar and cloves especially present, it delivers a long and harmonious finish.

Product details

Winemaking:
It was made in accordance with Porto´s traditional method. Grapes were hand-picked at an ideal maturation stage and pressed. Fermentation took place in stainless steel vats under controlled temperatures and was arrested at the optimum point by the addition of grape alcohol. The resulting wine is naturally sweet and rich, deeply red and full bodied, with great aromatic concentration. After the harvest the wine remained in the Douro and was racked for the first time over the winter. During racking the necessary final corrections in alcohol strength and acidity were carried out. It was taken to V.N.Gaia the following Spring and entered the traditional Porto Wine maturation process, in 640-litre vats, characteristic of the Sandeman style. During this period the wine was subjected to numerous racking, analyses and tastings that made it possible to monitor its ageing, as well as to intervene with blending and corrections whenever necessary. The final blend was arrived at after rigorous wine selection.

Tasting Notes:

Store and Serve Advices:
It should be kept horizontally so as to keep its cork moist, in a dry place and at a constant temperature of 16ºC-18ºC, avoiding strong light. It is bottled when fully mature and does not require decanting. However, if kept for some time, it may develop a sediment, in which case it should be decanted. Serve between 16ºC-18ºC. Once the bottle has been opened the wine should be drunk within 4-5 days, so as not to lose its initial freshness.

Food Pairing:
Ideal with chocolate-rich desserts, such as mousse, parfaits, cakes and truffles and red fruit tarts, creamy cheeses, or on its own, say, accompanying a cigar.

Allergens:
Contains sulphites.

90 points·Sandeman LBV Port 2010

The 2010 Late Bottled Vintage Port was bottled in April 2014. It is a blend of 55% Touriga Franca, 25% Tinta Roriz and 20% Touriga Nacional coming in at 105 grams per liter of residual sugar. Dealing now with the youngest of the Sandeman vertical, you also get the thickest in the mid-palate, the most astringent on your tongue and the richest in feel and flavor. That's a related series of events, obviously. A fine performance in this vintage, it shows well and drinks well, although it plainly needs a bit of time to settle down. I love its fresh purity of fruit–seeing this young is a very nice thing. It has that "fresh-squeezed" juice feel to it. This is an LBV that will profit from a couple of years in the cellar. It will acquire more elegance and fall into Sandeman's typical style as presented in this vertical. It should hold nicely in the cellar. There were 64,000 bottles produced.
