Product details
The Alto Quinta da Pellada was aged for 28 months in fourth-use French oak. This is one of a trio of wines this issue that owner Álvaro Castro has issued with old-style labels as an exercise in terroir. This is a field blend from the highest parcel (although by less than 10 meters—the differences are more in the soil); the Casa is the "most exposed" corner, with a different soil type; and the "49" is the middle parcel.

Tasting Notes:
Its elegance makes it seem lighter, but it is far more concentrated than the first taste would suggest. It simply has brilliant mid-palate finesse. If the Pellada has echoes of Burgundy, this does as well. It is also bursting with flavour, tightly wound and beautifully constructed. It opens slowly and becomes more impressive all the while. You can approach this today, but it would be helpful to give it a few years.
