Top Alvarinhos and Loureiros

These are two of our country's most representative white grape varieties, but many consumers still associate them with light wines, without much structure and for immediate consumption.

However, both have shown themselves to be suitable for different winemaking profiles, and at the top of the range we can find dry wines with high acidity, medium alcohol content, without much aromatic excess, with or without wood, serious, gastronomic and with high ageing potential. These are wines that ‘escape’ the more commercial profile so often associated with the region.

Our highlight today is Ameal Reserve 2022. A Loureiro with golden reflections, notes of dried flowers, buttery flavours, peach and lime zest. A spicy sensation and a light touch of tannin. Firm acidity, elegant, long finish, with good ageing capacity. 93 points in Revista de Vinhos.

We also suggest Adega Mãe 221. An unprecedented Alvarinho: the best barrels of AdegaMãe's Atlantic Alvarinho, worked by winemaker Diogo Lopes in this Atlantic-influenced terroir, combined with the best Alvarinho from Anselmo Mendes, from the Vinhos Verdes region. 2 regions, 2 winemakers, 1 grape variety: this is an unprecedented Alvarinho, full of freshness, complexity and originality.

To discover this and other suggestions, take a look at our selection today and allow yourself to escape the conventional.
