20 unforgettable white wines

Yesterday we looked at red wines that linger in the memory, today we turn our attention to whites. Often overlooked, today we have whites that are every bit as good as the finest Portuguese reds.

We begin by suggesting Quanta Terra Golden Edition, a Douro wine made from Viosinho and Gouveio grapes, aged for six years in barrels. Extremely complex with aromas of medicinal herbs, tarragon, liquorice, ripe pear, tangerine jam and orange blossom. On the palate, it has texture, the flavours are amplified, and the barrel is perfectly integrated. Endless... 19 points in Vinho Grandes Escolhas magazine.

Another 2017 not to be missed is Kompassus Private Collection. An impressive white, a rare case of perfect balance between dense body, enormous lightness, distinct aromas, well-integrated barrel and a unique personality.

We couldn't leave out Bacalhôa Bical VV 1931, a Classic Bairrada, which is already quite exclusive in itself. Deep and extremely complex, where citrus and maritime notes blend with toast, some sweet spice, ripe fruit, aromatic herbs and beeswax. Great texture and full body, accompanied by acidity. Sublime and with a very long finish.
