10 or 20 year old Tawny: which is the best choice?

Tawny Ports are well known to all of us, and the most consumed category is probably Tawnies with an indication of age, but the question often arises from consumers: which is the best value for money?

Well, the answer to this question is quite subjective, but here's a suggestion: a 10 or 20 year old is a pretty safe bet!

Many might think that the 10 year old, being the most ‘inferior’ in the category, isn't good enough, but nothing could be further from the truth! The 10 year olds are becoming more and more delicate, offering a lot of quality at a very affordable price.

The 20 year old Tawny, on the other hand, is considered by many to be the best value for money in the category. And we don't disagree with this opinion. Of course, it's subjective and varies from brand to brand, but as a general rule, it's a very balanced category.

With an average alcohol content of 20% and a high sweetness, both are almost always used as dessert wines, and are the perfect allies for caramel, cinnamon or almond sweets.

They should be served chilled, and if possible in a port glass. They also have the enormous advantage of being able to be kept open for a few weeks without losing their quality.

Take a look at our selection and make your choice. Whatever it is, it will certainly be surprising.
