Located in the far east of the Douro region, the Douro Superior sub-region is a land of contrasts, with stunning landscapes and vineyards that defy the rugged geography to produce wines with a unique character.
The Douro Superior Wine Festival is the most important event in this distinctive Douro sub-region and took place at the end of May. The quality of the wines tasted is an affirmation of this sub-region as one of the benchmark terroirs for producing wines of the highest calibre not only in the Douro, but throughout the country. This is where harsh nature and tradition meet to create some of the world's best-loved wines.
More than a hundred wines were judged by a panel of 22 judges, national and international experts, including buyers, sommeliers, critics, journalists and representatives of wine shops and wine bars.
Duas Quintas Reserve White 2023 and Avô Escrivão Grand Reserve Red 2021 were announced as the Best Wines of the Douro Superior 2025.
In addition to these big winners, 18 gold medals and 37 silver medals were awarded for the most different styles of wine, proving once again the diversity and innovation of the region.
Today we would like to suggest some of these winners so that you can learn more about this exciting sub-region of the Douro.
