Vintage Port 2023: Freshness is the watchword

2023 in the Douro was a year of mild weather, bucking the trend of previous years, which were dominated by heatwaves and low rainfall.

A mild, dry spring provided ideal conditions for vine development and early, healthy flowering. July and August were marked by mild, sunny weather, with no episodes of extreme heat or water stress, resulting in very balanced ripening.

These characteristics produced wines of remarkable fruit purity, structure and aromatic depth, beautiful freshness, elegance, complexity and great balance.

Quinta do Noval declared its Quinta do Noval and Quinta do Noval Nacional Vintage wines. Christian Seely, managing director of Quinta do Noval, describes them as ‘wines of great elegance, complexity and balance, already expressive in their youth, but with the structure and depth to age and evolve in the bottle for many decades’.

Symington also launched its 2023 Vintage wines on the market this year, including Quinta do Vesúvio and Quinta da Senhora da Ribeira from Dow´s. According to Charles Symington, these are “elegantly balanced wines that represent the best expression of the year. These wines are produced from the best performing vineyard plots on each estate, which we bring together to create excellent Quinta Vintage Ports, with a strong terroir character and great ageing potential".

You can also find the Vintage 2023 recently launched by Vallegre: Vista Alegre and Valle Longo, both offering excellent value for money. And our latest addition, Taylors Sentinels, a remarkable expression of the deep, complex and fruity character that defines the historic vineyards of the Vale do Pinhão.

Choose your favourite and don't miss this excellent opportunity to add a great Vintage 2023 to your wine cellar.
