Portugal has a great diversity and wealth of honey plant species, giving rise to a wide variety of honeys throughout the country.
This diversity results in different types of honey: multifloral, obtained from various species, and monofloral, where we find honey from only one species, be it rosemary, heather, chestnut, arbutus, pennyroyal, orange, eucalyptus, sunflower… Depending on the species used, honey will reveal different characteristics in colour, flavour and nutritional properties.
Portuguese diversity is so great that we currently have nine designations of origin.
Delicious and of high quality, honey is a fantastic natural addition to your diet, whether consumed on its own or incorporated into delicious recipes, both sweet and savoury. Consumed in the recommended quantities, honey offers numerous health benefits and corresponds to the growing interest in natural, sustainable and healthy products.
