Following the creation of the 50-year-old category by the Douro and Port Wine Institute (IVDP), the 80-year-old category was finally approved, although some producers already had white and tawny Ports on the market that until now had been called very old.
With the creation of this new category, the two most iconic Port wine brands, Taylor's and Graham's, were among the first to release exclusive editions.
In the case of Graham's, it is a limited edition of 600 bottles, a blend carefully crafted by Charles Symington in honor of his father, Peter Symington. A rare, elegant, and historic wine, it also commemorates the 200th anniversary of the Graham's house.
Taylor's also released its 80-year-old, the Victory Port, a limited edition and a tribute to the end of World War II, commemorated with 1,945 numbered bottles.
To create this extraordinary wine, Taylor's drew on its vast reserves of very old Port wines, carefully preserved in its cellars. For Taylor's Victory Port, Taylor's tasters meticulously selected some of these extraordinary wines, which were harmoniously blended, ensuring a perfect integration of flavors, complexity, and depth. The final blend was then left to "marry" in barrels for several months, until achieving perfect balance and elegance.
These are both mesmerizing Tawny Ports, deep amber in color, with a creamy texture, marked by layers of complexity that will delight true connoisseurs of old Ports, especially those seeking truly exclusive wines.
