Croft Quinta da Roêda Vintage Port 2012

Port Wine
(3) reviews 5.0/5
95 pts Wine Spectator - Dense ruby black core surrounded by a purple red rim. The nose is true to the Roêda style, a luscious fruitiness combined with the resin, musky redolence of wild herbs and gum cistus. However the year, with its typical purity and finesse, has placed this finely constituted wine at the elegant and subtle end of the Roêda spectrum. Blended with the typically jammy fruit are fresher notes of raspberry and apricot and the palate is lifted by a crisp acidity and supported by a dense warp of firm sinewy tannins. Slightly more restrained and clearly delineated than some recent Roêda vintages, the wine nevertheless displays the seductive ripe fruitiness which is the hallmark of this great historic estate.

Winemaking:
Quinta da Roêda is one of the best properties in the Douro. The property, located in Pinhão, was acquired by Croft in 1889 and extensively renovated throughout the first half of the 20th century. Roêda's rich, aromatic wines, with their full fruit character, form the basis of Croft's vintage blend and are the cornerstone of the house's style. A vintage Port is a wine of a single harvest of outstanding quality. The wine must be bottled between the second and third year of age, maturing henceforth in bottle.

Grape Varieties:
Tinta Roriz,Touriga Franca,Touriga Nacional

17,5 points·Croft Quinta da Roêda Vintage Port 2012

Great harmony of aroma/flavor set, full of black fruit with elegance, very good density of mouth, precise and tasty. Is a vintage large level, with everything that is supposed to set, in large proportion.

93 points·Croft Quinta da Roêda Vintage Port 2012

Wonderfully floral, this wine is rich while also having great fruits, a fresher edge and tannins that caress. From the Croft home vineyard, it shows fullness and structure. The aftertaste is so fruity and fragrant, it's almost drinkable now. Wait, though, until 2020.

95 points·Croft Quinta da Roêda Vintage Port 2012

This shows a peppery note to the dark plum and cherry tart flavors, with hints of dark currant and graphite. Elegant, with plenty of grip and bittersweet chocolate details on the finish. Drink now through 2040. 250 cases imported.
